This request is from:
Neal Jackson, <neal@dircon.co.uk>
A person on this wee island called Britain needs some help in finding localised software for running a small Guest House.
Problem is, I've found quite a few Commercial Mac applications to help manage a Guest House but they are mainly American resulting in much extraneous tax stuff, Zip-codes and wibbly-wobbly bits. I did d/l a free FM4 solution but it has too many bugs and is again USA orientated.
What I need is a British Mac solution. I could use FileMaker Pro 4 and attack the problem but I don't really fancy reinventing the wheel.
I would be obliged if any Mac evangelists/marines (Cross-posted) could e-mail me with details of software they know of.
I will gladly collate any info I get and submit it back to this list.
Regards, Neal
p.s. I intend to put an iMac in all the guest rooms

This announcement is from:
shane, <shane@squeem.com>
SQUEEM Software, maker of the leading debt consolidation software for Macintosh, Debt Wizard, released a major fix of the software with the same name. Debt Wizard v2.4.3 is available for immediate download at <http://www.squeem.com/download.html>.
Debt Wizard v2.4.3 enhances the cosmetic appearance of Debt Wizard's window positioning and eliminated some rare accounting problems in very peculiar circumstances. The previous release (v2.4.2) fixed some persistent bugs that occurred with some Macintoshes in version 2.4 and 2.4.1 as well as incorporates the same new unprecedented features such as accounting for debts with split interest rates, varying interest rates, printing calendars with pay reminders, an export ability, an active toolbar, and many new graphing/plotting capabilities. These capabilities compliment an already robust feature set fashioning the most complete, flexible, and powerful consolidation tool of any platform. More information is available online at <http://www.squeem.com/dw.html>.
Debt Wizard has already been rated by VersionTracker, "Best of Class" for financial tools and has appeared on several CD-ROMS such as Macworld, BBSinaBox, AMUG, Sitelink. We are extremely proud to announce DW will soon be premiered on MacAddict's periodical. SQUEEM Software is dedicated to serving the Macintosh community (exclusively) by providing quality software at an unequaled value. Debt Wizard is currently the company's flagship product.

This request is from:
<NRecs@aol.com>
Does anyone know of, or subscribe to, any mailing lists/discussion groups/newsgroups aimed at medical people (particularly doctors' offices) using Macintosh computers?
I have lots of leads (thanks to an EvangeList post some time ago) to companies offering Mac-based practice-management systems. What I am looking for now are people with hands-on experience with these Mac systems (and with the other platform, for comparison).
I'll be happy to report back.

Date: Fri, 21 Aug 1998 08:06:54 -0800 From: John Halbig <john@garage.com> Subject: ?? - T1 Wireless Modems For Macs
This request is from:
Greg Haas, <izzaboo@bigfoot.com>
My ISP just announced it's new T1 wireless service. I'm grateful that they have solutions for both MacsOS and Windows machines. However, the solution for the Mac is approximately $2700 in hardware (not including the router, etc). That is to say, the little box that connects to the antenna and the antenna itself put the price right around $3000.
There is an ISA 2.4 GHz wireless connection card (or something like that) that they re-sell for just under $1000. They tell me it's only available for Windows machines.
I'm nearly foaming at the mouth thinking of the speeds I could get, 24/7, with this type of thing. And all with none of the typical telco charges. I watched a demo, first thing this morning and it was nice and speedy.
Does anyone on this wonderful list have any pointers that may be helpful in getting a fellow Mac user connected over the air?

Today, one of our biggest clients asked us for faxed documentation on our firm's efforts to ensure Y2K compliance. My reply read roughly as follows:
"Dear [snip],
"All our computer work is done in-house, using Macintoshes. Therefore, we are Y2K compliant until the year 29,940 A.D.
"Sincerely, ..." (etc.)
I wanted to make it more cheeky, like "...we will be able to serve your company's needs until the year 29,940...", but like I say, this was one of our biggest clients. No sense rubbing it in...too much. :)

Review: Extension Overload v. 2.7 By Cynthia Braga
The more the extensions, the slower your system. To solve this problem, many of you have ventured into the world of Extenions Manager, turning off certain extensions and control panels to optimize your system while using a particular application. The problem lies with some third party extensions. After loading a utility onto your system, you probably will forget what it does 6 months later. So how do you know what those foreign extensions are used for? Enter Extension Overload.
