This follow-up message is from:
Carl Maniscalco, <caman@earthlink.net>
In a tidbit which appeared in the EvangeList Digest V1 #1253, I stated that the Fiery RIP runs under Windows NT on an Intel-powered computer. This is incorrect--it actually runs on a DEC Alpha under a flavor of Unix.
Thanks to Phil Marinucci of Xerox for setting me straight on this.

Hands up, who out there beside myself has had enough of the "Doom"-like first person shoot-'em-ups? Who else is tired of running down countless corridors, shooting multitudes of monsters and collecting tons of treasure? Truth be known, I first explored this genre in 1983 when I bought "Advanced Dungeons and Dragons: Treasure of Tarmin" for my Intellivision. And now, fifteen years later, I'm exploring it again with Logicware's "Killing Time."

This follow-up message is from:
Stephen Yanusz, <syanusz@erols.com>
I have been providing a product that uses a multiple-boot configuration under Windoze (doesn't that make things sooo much easier to use?) for about 3 years. Don't even try using a Zip drive here!
In *some* cases, when you install the Zip drive under Win95, you can't boot under DOS because the zip driver will lock up the system. I say in *some* cases because I've loaded the Zip software from the same disk onto a number of these units, and each unit behaves differently. I won't go into why, but let it suffice to be said that it has something to do with the beloved config.sys, autoexec.bat and friends.
Remember those stats that compare the life spans of men vs women, married vs unmarried men, etc? Has anyone analyzed Mac vs Wintel users?

This announcement is from:
Jeff Benjamin, <jeff@stepupsoftware.com>
StepUp Software is pleased to announce the first public beta release of doScript Plug-in version 2.0 for FileMaker Pro 4 for Macintosh.
Version 2.0 adds the ability to activate a script when a key combination is pressed. F1 thru F4 as well as option-key combinations are supported. Developers are able to define which script executes for which key, dynamically. The script "attached" to a key can therefore change during a user's session based on security, work progress, foreground database, etc.
Pricing for version 2.0 will remain the same as current pricing: $30 for a single-user license; $200 for a site license; $500 for a worldwide license; and $150 for a distribution license.
Upgrades for current owners of the product will be FREE.

This special offer is from:
Tiger Technologies, <support@tigertech.com>
Tiger Technologies is pleased to announce the release of version 1.2.5 of our Window Monkey shareware program -- and to celebrate, we're giving EvangeListas 25% off the regular price until September 15!
Window Monkey is a Mac-only program that adds customizable background patterns to Finder windows -- with Window Monkey, patterns aren't just for desktops any more! You can use patterns to color-code your windows for identification or just for fun. For example, make your folder of work documents look like a legal pad, or give that folder of love letters a background of red hearts! Every folder window can have its own pattern.
The program is useful, too -- it includes a handy window navigation menu that lets you jump to any window or recently used folder. You'll quickly wonder how you ever got along without it.
Window Monkey has received tons of awards and great reviews, including being rated number 20 on MacAddict magazine's list of all-time greatest Mac shareware and freeware programs. CNET calls it "too cool to ignore".
Window Monkey normally costs $20, but loyal readers can grab it now for $15. To learn more, download a trial copy, and get your 25% discount, visit our special Evangelist page:

Date: Thu, 27 Aug 1998 09:56:40 -0800 From: John Halbig <john@garage.com> Subject: PR - MetaCard Delivers on the Promise of Hypercard
After 8 years of continuous development, MetaCard Corporation is now delivering on the promise of HyperCard. Whether you need it for graphical application development or multimedia authoring, MetaCard 2.2 has the features to make the job go quickly and smoothly:
* Support for Windows 3.1/95/98/NT, all popular UNIX platforms, and new support for MacOS 68K and PowerPC. No preprocessing, recompiling, redesign, or platform-specific debugging is required to deploy a product on all platforms simultaneously. MetaCard has a fully functional development environment on all platforms and doesn't rely on limited-function "players".
* Native look and feel on all platforms, with cross-platform support for advanced controls including combo-boxes, hierarchical menus, and a tab control. Built-in support for popular audio, video, and image formats means there is no need to hunt down or pay for external components.
* Build complete single-file double-clickable royalty-free applications on all platforms: no shared libraries, virtual machines, browsers, installers, or other add-ons are required. This means no DLL or JVM version conflicts, and high reliability and lower support costs for applications you distribute.
MetaCard's easy to learn high-level language (MetaTalk) enables even non-programmers to build the productivity-enhancing applications they need. Experienced developers will appreciate the flexibility they gain from advanced language features like associative arrays, regular expressions, support for manipulating binary data, and built-in HTTP GET and POST. MetaTalk offers the power and productivity of Perl without the syntactic gymnastics.
High-performance "virtual compiler" technology provides script execution speeds over 5 times faster than HyperCard or SuperCard on average, and potential performance increases of hundreds or thousands of times through the use of language features not available in those tools (benchmarks available on the MetaCard WWW site <http://www.metacard.com>.
MetaCard's entire development environment including graphical editor, script editor, and debugger was built in MetaCard. This not only demonstrates the power of the tool, but also provides something not available in any competing tool: you can change any aspect of the development environment to make it suit your needs.
MetaCard 2.2 is currently in beta test and will be released Q3 1998. The free MetaCard Starter Kit is available now from the MetaCard WWW and FTP sites <http://www.metacard.com/> and <ftp://ftp.metacard.com/MetaCard> and from distributors world wide. The Starter Kit is a fully functional GUI development and multimedia authoring tool, but there is a limit on the length of scripts you can create with it. Purchasing a license key enables the full functionality of MetaCard. Free converters are available to convert projects from HyperCard, SuperCard, and OMO (Oracle Media Objects) to MetaCard.
Pricing is $995 for a single-user, all platform license (that's right: a single license key can be used on any supported platform, no need to buy a separate license for each). Educational institutions receive a 50% discount. K12 schools can purchase MetaCard through a special program for $250 for a 10-user license which comes bundled with "MetaTalk Programmer", a CBT package that has kids programming in a matter of hours. __________ This msg originated from the MacDev-1 listserv and was selectively redistributed on your favorite list -- EvangeList. I downloaded this to check it out (I was a BIG fan of HyperCard). This is pretty cool stuff. I'm going to experiment with it some more this weekend, to be sure. :-)

Date: Fri, 28 Aug 1998 14:57:43 -0700 From: Guy Kawasaki <Kawasaki@garage.com> Subject: !! - Accordion Players
This is serious--well, kind of. A famous Silicon Valley restaurant called Buck's (it's one of the most popular places for schmoozing in the Valley) sponsors the Sand Hill Challenge <http://www.sandhill.org/>. This is a soap box derby that raises funds for the Peninsula Community Foundation (a charity).
This year there's an added attraction: the Accordian Invasion. The owner of Buck's, Jamis MacNiven (I kid you not!) is trying to set the Guiness Book of World Records for the largest accordion band. He asked me to help get the word out that accordion players are needed. Of the tens of thousands of EvangeListas who get this message, some of you must be accordian players!
Here are the details:
Sunday, September 20, 1998 8:15 am 280 and Sand Hill Road
There will be lots of tv coverage, and a PBS special is being shot. I'll be there pushing the garage.com car.
