Date: Wed, 21 Oct 1998 08:06:09 -0700 From: John Halbig <john@garage.com> Subject: Job - Freelance Mac Assistant (New York, NY)
This job offer is from:
<gbarrett@dfjp.com>
Freelance Mac Assistant
A 55-person advertising agency in New York City seeks a freelance entry-level Mac Assistant. Our ideal candidate will be self-taught, a seat-of-the-pants flier and a Jack or Jill of many skills. Also appreciated are the ability to argue, keep three computers busy at a time and to pick out useful information from the 30 trade journals we get each week. A sense of the ridiculous and talent for bringing callers directly to the point are helpful, too.
Suggested experience includes the following, but as this is entry-level, we can give you experience in the areas below that you may not be completely knowledgeable in: -- Helping out with day-to-day user assistance and troubleshooting.
- -- Assisting hardware and software installations of new and old Macs. - -- Knowledge of Word 5.1, Excel 5.0, PowerPoint 4.0, Mac OS, Now Contact, Now Up-To-Date, Internet applications. - -- Familiarity with Quark, Illustrator and Photoshop. - -- Familiarity with TCP/IP networking.
- -- Basic understanding of pre-press and studio operations. - -- Knowledge of Windows is not helpful, but familiarity with any flavor of Unix is. Our office is 99 percent Macintosh, with a mix of high and low end machines. Our network is Ethernet, with about 75 percent of the traffic being TCP/IP and the rest AppleTalk. Our business is advertising. We have deadlines and chaos constantly, but it is a creative environment and the attitude is casual. As this is a basic, freelance position, we cannot fly you in from anywhere or cover moving expenses. We also cannot arrange green cards, work permits or SAG/AFTRA membership.
Please note that this is not a job that will serve as a stepping stone to copywriting or art directing.
Please send an informative letter that includes your hourly rate, and a resume, via email only. If you call, you flunk the first test. Grant Barrett Manager of Information Technology Della Femina/Jeary and Partners <mailto:gbarrett@dfjp.com>
