This job offer is from:
<mailto: "Michael Talman" mtalman@webstudio.com>
Our client is a major publication devoted to the dark side. We're looking for an AppleScript or Frontier expert to set up a special application which would blow their socks off. What we need is pretty simple to describe, but I can't actuallly talk about it on the Net (client confidentiality) but suffice to say it involves setting up a "watched folder" system similar to Acrobat Distiller, only doing something else.
This is a short-term, one-shot paying gig, and we could really use some help. If you fit the bill, contact Mike Talman at <mailto:mtalman@webstudio.com>.
Let's show 'em that Macs rule!

Great news and a sign the tide may be turning for PC vendors to add more Mac support.

Date: Fri, 23 Oct 1998 08:07:01 -0700 From: John Halbig <john@garage.com> Subject: PR - MediaWrapper Light 2.0.3 Update
This announcement is from:
<mailto: "John Clark" 12ftguru@mindspring.com>
MediaWrapper Light has been updated to support the iMation Superdisk. I have also added fixes for a few gremlins that were hanging about (including print problems with mutiple copies and a text overlap problem). MediaWrapper Light 2.0.3 is now available for download at:
<http://www.12ftguru.com/MediaWrapper/>
MediaWrapper Light 2.0.3 lets you scan a removable disk, and print out the contents on a wrapper that you can insert into the disk case. Currently MediaWrapper Light supports Zip, Jaz, CD-ROM, EZ Flyer, SyJet, SyQuest, MagnetoOptical Disks, and SuperDisks.
MediaWrapper Light offers the following features:
* Scan inside subfolders * Scan PC disks (for all your Wintel friends) * Prints Date Scanned and Space Available on disk * Editable fields * Logos or pictures can be added for all wrappers. * MediaWrapper Light stores all settings including a default picture for all wrappers * MediaWrapper Light is also much faster then previous versions.
MediaWrapper Light was recently given 4 mice by ZDnet.
MediaWrapper Light was created using REALBasic. <http://www.realbasic.com/> If you have any desire at all to program you should check out REALBasic. I can't recommend this enough. REALBasic can take you from simple projects to complex programs in a very short time. The REALBasic team is currently working on a Pro version that will allow you to write a program for your mac, press a button and compile the same program for PC. Try that on a DOS/WIN/NT box! __________________________ Digital Guy Sez:
I had a chnce to play with REALBasic as well. To say I'm impressed would be an understatement. The compiled programs are fast, the development environment is powerful, interface development is FUN, and the whole thing takes 2 (yes, TWO) megs of disk space. That's including an online language reference. Not bad...

This tidbit is from:

Due to a overwhelming number of reader mails regarding 400MHz G3 CPU card upgrades for older Macs, I've posed an article titled
"Past, Present and Future Issues of G3 CPU Card Upgrades" at:
<http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/tips/400mhz.html>
This article notes the possible problems with faster G3 CPU upgrades and also summarizes the issues of the past and current upgrade cards. It also contains links to other site pages with owner feedback on most of the current available card models organized by Mac model and card brand. Worth a look if you're in the market for a G3 CPU upgrade.

Unreal is taking the mac gamers by storm and rightly so - it's an amazing game. However it is also very ram and CPU intensive.
I've posted several pages at the site that show the framerates of different mac models, video card setups, etc. and how they affect Unreal performance.

The Toolkit also has a DOCmaker file with Unreal FAQs and Tips.

This tidbit is from:

The Mac rocks once more! Check out my article on how to build an AppleScript-driven, Mac-based MPEG jukebox at: <http://www.raum.com/mpeg/letters.html>. Since my initial writing, I have discovered that the artifacts I mentioned do not exist with MPEG files, so Ultra-Wide SCSI controllers can (and should) be used to allow expansion. Throughput is not an issue - even at 256kbps bitrate, the files are only 1.8MB/minute in size.
I welcome inquiries concerning my AppleScripts for this project.
