Yeah...often, regardless of platform, the networks that these systems are attached to and the networking software they're using will slow them down a lot. This is true of Macs as much as (or even more than) PC's....file sharing and appletalk are so slow it's ridiculous.

I'd like to see a properly networked Mac workgroup with about 10 machines all running good ethernet with Open Transport and NetDoubler. Most of the mac networks are hideously poorly done...the ethernet at school is crippled by being thinnet daisy-chained (about 30 macs on thinnet) to a hub box that goes out to the rest of the world which is about 10 years old, and also serves the appletalk (non-ethernetted) machines.

I think this PC was pretty well setup. I'm sure any of us could do better if it were our own machine...but who knows. I might eventually get one of those PC compatibility cards (if they come down in price) just to get W95 and be proficient in it's use. That way when people say I'm biased towards the mac and don't know anything about W95, I can look at 'em and say I can handle W95 better than most net-admin's.
