Subject: PR - Peek-a-Boo 1.3 -- A MacOS Process Monitoring Utility

This announcement is from:

Bob Clark, <bobc@oz.net>

Peek-a-Boo is a shareware ($10) utility to monitor and manipulate all
running processes. You can watch how much CPU time each process uses, as
well as look at any piece of information available through the Process
Manager.

Peek-a-Boo lets you open CPU history windows to track how much processor
power a process uses.

Logging windows can be opened, too, to watch memory and processor usage,
optionally saving the information to a tab-delimited file for further
analysis.

The latest version of Peek-a-Boo focuses on ease of use. New features
include:

- - Sort by a variety of attributes, including Name, AcTix, PSN, Signature,
FreeMem, and more. - Simplified Preferences dialog.
- - New ProcInfo menu to specify which attributes are displayed in the main
Peek-a-Boo window. - "Grabbable" dividers between column headers to
resize the width of each column.
- - Select processes by clicking in the memory map.
- - Select a background color for all Peek-a-Boo windows.

Peek-a-Boo 1.3 is available now. Download links and more information are
available at the Peek-a-Boo web site:

This announcement is from:

Ilan Szekely, <ilans@vms.huji.ac.il>

Announcing the new release of:

Type / Creator Database v3.2

By Ilan Szekely
Programming: Daniel Azuma
Much of the data: Nikolas Kovalenko

June 1998

Background

Every Macintosh program has two four character codes associated with it -
its Type and Creator. The latter is unique to each program and enables
the Finder to attach documents to their parent applications. This
database tries to compile as many codes as possible. It is presented as a
stand-alone application, easy to use.

NEW
291 new entries, giving a total of 18154 code pairs and about 1700 have
PC equivalent extension codes.

1. The database now includes equivalent PC Extension codes for about 10%
of the entries. 2. A new set of PC related databases is now included. 3.
All new versions are now locked by passwords.

Shareware fee ($15) is now payable via KAGI.

Special comments for the EvangeList Digest:

This is almost the only public source of Type/Creator data. It inludes
now code-pairs for

- - over 6000 applications, about 860 of them are games.
- - 625 INITs
- - 630 CDEVs
- - 100 Movie files
- - over 470 graphic files
- - ca 1700 PC equivalent extension codes.

I asure you this (list of 18154 code pairs) is only a partial list... Who
says there is no software for MACs ?

Subject: Tidbit - Opera Announces Mac OS Version of Browser

This tidbit is from:

David D. Kilzer, <ddkilzer@earthlink.net>

"After many arduous months of negotiations, we have finally signed the
porting contract for MacOS. The version will be developed in the USA.
More details will become available in due course."

Versions for BeOS, Linux and Solaris were also announced. It's not clear
whether the Linux port will be available for MkLinux/LinuxPPC, too. (I
assume it would require a 'simple' recompile, though.)

Subject: $$ - FlightMath 1.1

This special offer is from:

Bob Williams, <Williar2@muohio.edu>

TriVectus is pleased to announce the first update to their well-received
FlightMath. Version 1.1 includes all of the features of the original,
plus an enhanced interface and density altitude calculations. From the
press release:

"Aimed at pilots and flight simulator aficionados, FlightMath
dramatically eases the tedious mathematical calculations associated with
planning a flight. Features include:

* Wind course corrections: calculate the heading necessary to compensate
for wind

* Fuel analysis: compute any combination of travel time, burn rate, and
capacity, using any combination of units

* Speed/distance analysis: compute any combination of travel time, speed,
and distance, using any combination of units

* Density altitude: calculate the density altitude for a given
temperature and pressure altitude

FlightMath performs all of these calculations with great speed and
accuracy. No longer will pilots need to waste time fussing with such
devices as the ASA E6-B Flight Computer."

TriVectus was recently formed from the merger of Enterprise Software and
BattleAxe Software. Though we have a new name, we maintain our old
philosophy, which is to produce the very best Mac-only shareware software
that we can.

As we did with the release of FlightMath 1.0, we are recognizing
EvangeLista's efforts to further the Mac cause by offering them a 20%
discount -- only $16!

You can download FlightMath from <http://www.trivectus.com/>. When you're
ready to register, visit
<http://www.trivectus.com/evangelist/index.shtml> and download the
special EvangeList version of the Register program, which will allow you
to register via e-mail and receive your discount.

Subject: $$ - WebPrint Plus

This special offer is from:

Steve <Becker,<steve@macease.com>

I'm pleased to announce the release of WebPrint Plus, a Mac-only Utility
program. WebPrint Plus is the first in a series of Mac-based utilities
that my company, MacEase, will be releasing over the next several months.
Each utility is designed to be easy-to-use and make the time you spend
with your Mac both more productive and even more enjoyable!

Another nice feature is that these utilities don't require remembering
key combinations, don't require launching a separate application, don't
take up a lot of Desktop space, and don't require a lot of your system's
resources. Yes, you can have your cake and eat it,too!

The following excerpts from WebPrint's ReadMe file concisely state *some*
of WebPrint's features:

When using your Web browser or working with a document in almost any
program have you found yourself wishing you could save a few words here
and a paragraph there without having to launch yet another program to
accomplish this? In a multi-page document have you wished you could
quickly print only the text that was of interest to you, without having
to first figure out which page in the article the text resided on? Have
you wished you could easily combine snippets of non-contiguous text and
print them out together? Would you like to be able to time and date stamp
these selections even add a label/comment to them? WebPrint Plus allows
you to accomplish this and much more easily and without having to launch
another program or remember *any* keyboard commands!

Requirements

A Macintosh computer with System 7.0 or later and a 68020 or later
processor.

A free, fully functional 21-day demonstration version may be downloaded
at:

<http://www.kagi.com/MacEase>

A registered version that includes a 30-day money back satisfaction
guarantee is available at

Special Price

While the regular registration fee is only $15.,for the next 30 days I'm
pleased to offer Evangelist readers an even lower, special price of $12.
WebPrint Plus includes both written documentation and an online Help
system (you probably won't need it after the first day though :-) ).
Technical support may be obtained by emailing me at the following
address: <steve_webprint@macease.com>.

I hope you enjoy using WebPrint Plus as much as I do...your comments are
always welcome!
