"I know it's not logical. Logic says to stick with my Windows machine, put up with the crashes, and upgrade every 18 months, just like everyone else.
"But I'm tired of logic. Everywhere I looked at Macworld, I saw people who love their computers. I found myself longing to have the same relationship with the little box under my desk at home. But that won't happen with this machine."
Also notable is the great quote from one of my favorite authors, Douglas Adams (on the Y2K problem):
"I've written a commercial for Apple Computer. It goes like this:
'Macintosh - we might not get everything right, but at least we knew the century was going to end.'"

"Recently, Ižve been thinking about getting my mother a PC, mainly so she can have Internet access and e-mail. Shežs never had a computer of any kind before. At first, I figured Ižd go with a very basic Windows machine, anything under $1,000. But now Ižm thinking for a few hundred dollars more, she can have the neat-o design of the iMac -- and I wonžt get all those calls for help that are bound to come if I go the Windows route.
"Seems worth it all of a sudden. Funny how things turn around."

I've just seen an ad on the TV here in New Zealand advertising an upcoming showing of Apollo 13, Tom Hanks' moony/space type movie. And it's being sponsored by none other than the iMac !! This means that at the start of the movie, and the beginning and end of every ad break, we are treated to little spinning picture of the iMac. Seeing as we only have 4 TV channels, that has pretty much gotta guarantee that a fair slice of the population is going to see it.
It's great to see Apple gearing up for the iMac here in NZ. In the past Apple have had a very low profile here, and it is only very rarely that you would see an Apple ad in print, let alone on the TV. No Think Different for us. Actually at the beginning of the year there was a competition in association with a bread company ( ?!? ) giving away 2 eMates a day, for 45 days or something. Hopefully they'll be able to keep the price down, at todays exchange rate an iMac would cost about NZ$2500. Although an iMac would no doubt run them into the ground, there are many, many PC's for less than that and probably the majority are at that price point.
Nevertheless, it is great to see Apple advertising here. Go iMac !

This tidbit is from:
Jim Gates, <jgates@ezonline.com>
This is a portion of an article by David Dekok (staff writer) that appeared in the Harrisburg Sunday Patriot News on 7/12/98 entitled, "No More Standing Outside Looking Through Windows", subtitle "macWorld Expo has owners feeling just like kids in a candy shop."
The beginning of the article mentioned that Mac owners are often disappointed when they see a new piece of software and find out that it's only available for Windows. This paragraph caught my eye, though:
"I should emphasize again that all of it was available for the Mac, which will seem redundant only to those who treasure the plethora of Windows software, but also endure cranky, crashing computers that must be prayed to daily."

All this is accomplished without having to launch a separate application!
An innovative interface provides the user with access to all the main features of the program without the need to remember any key combinations. It also offers the user a choice of two different interfaces to work with.

This tidbit is from:
George Hulseman, <gazette@opendoor.com>
Our recent announcement of a new domain name was premature. Although the domain name works fine on our end, there was a snag at the source which we still haven't remedied. In the interim, we'd like to point out that our regular old URL works just fine. It's <http://www.opendoor.com/geez/>
To recap, The Gazette Online is the electronic edition of a monthly magazine produced in beautiful Ashland, Oregon. We have put much energy into our web site in an effort to complement our printed magazine. Check out reviews of all the local theater online, including the world famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Also, don't miss our QuickTime panoramas of Ashland created with an Epson digital camera and Apple's QTVR Authoring Studio.
See you there!
