I am currently reviewing an iMac and am putting together a comprehensive
review of the bondy blue sensation and some of the peripherals (iMation's
SuperDisk Drive and more) available to the iMac user.

I would like to hear from iMac users and their experiences with the iMacs
and peripherals...good, bad, or indifferent. I'd like to use some of your
iMac comments and experiences in my feature, which will appear online at
The REVIEW ZONE, <http://www.TheReviewZone.com> (and possibly other web
sites). Of course, I won't include your e-mail addresses, and if you
request anonymity, you've got it.

A few specific questions: Can you type well with the USB keyboard which
came with the iMac? Share your tips on how you managed to slam 100 wpm
out of this keyboard! Are the black keys easy on your eyes?

How about that round mouse? What's your secret on keeping it in its place
or is it still doing the hula on your mousepad?

If you have kids, what's your method to keep them away from YOUR iMac?
Or, have you bought your kids an iMac of their own so they can leave you
alone? How's the CD-ROM drive holding up?

Have you gotten your hands on Imation's SuperDisk drive so that your iMac
can read floppies? Your experiences with the SuperDisk are welcome!

Will bondy blue become the predominant color in your house? If you
managed to talk your boss into buying a $1,299 wonder, how do you get
your work done when EVERYONE stops by your desk to pat the iMac?

How many of you own a new VW Bug, too?

Your comments are always welcome! Please e-mail me at

<mailto:Tina@TheReviewZone.com>

I'll be happy to report my findings on the EvangeList when I've compiled
the comments I receive from the list.

Have you seen Intel's latest TV ad - the one featuring Homer Simpson
receiving an Intel brain implant? At first, I thought it was an ad for
Apple! Am I missing something? Why does it seem entirely appropriate to
see the "Intel Inside" logo affixed to that particular cranium? It's been
a long time since I watched "The Simpsons," but to the best of my
knowledge, old Homer's mental capacity hasn't improved significantly
since then!

Well, Homer IS a bit of a drone personality -- just the kind of person
who would want to blend in with the masses. Maybe this is a form of
guerilla evangelism on some saavy marketer's part? ;-)

When I saw the Tidbit about BBEdit and the number of Macs used in web
design, it occurred to me there might be quite a few Evangelistas out
there that would benefit from the HTML Reference I put together. I've
heard quote a few positive comments about its organization from others
who have found it useful, so if a bunch more Evangelistas can make use of
it as well, all the better. It's at <http://www.arnspub.com/QuickRef/;>
take a look and let me know what you think of it.

Subject: Tidbit - A Prodigal Son...

This tidbit is from:

<mailto: "Nigel Brachi" nbrachi@shana.com>

An interesting article in the Toronto Globe & Mail over the weekend,
entitled "A prodigal son returns to the Mac" (Saturday, November 14,
1998) in which Douglas Ruskoff reflects on his decision, about two years
ago, to trade in his Macintosh computer for a Microsoft
Windows-compatible machine. As he says:

"Now, two years and three Windows operating systems later, I am finally
admitting defeat. I understand Windows as well as most technical-support
personnel. I can edit a config.sys file and delete bad lines in an
autoexec.bat with the best of them. I can partition a hard drive in
FAT32, manually configure a dialup adapter and scour my systems folder
for obsolete DLL's. But why would I want to?"

Indeed.

Check it out - the rest of the article is just as good - at:

Just Saw Something Very Interesting On Entertainment Tonight. Noah Willey
From ER Is Going To Be Playing Mr Steve Jobs In A Made For TV Movie
"Pirates of Silicon Valley" We Should See It Sometime In May '99.

"Without STEVE JOBS, you probably wouldn't be reading this interview
online. In the seventies, Jobs and his friend STEVE WOZNIAK built the
first Apple computer in Steve's parents' garage. Now, Jobs story is
coming to life in a new movie with "E.R." doctor NOAH WYLE in the
outrageous part. We caught up with Noah on the set of 'Pirates of Silicon
Valley' to find out what it's like playing such a revolutionary
character. "

This tidbit is from:

I was kickin' back the other day, watching some Much Music (For you
Americans, that's Canada's version of MTV), when along came the video for
the (really cool) new REM song, Daysleeper. It's a cool video, artsy, but
not excessively so. Very nice. Anyway, as I'm scoping the vid, I notice
in one scene of a businessman in his office, that he has a kicking
monitor on his desk. Blue, thin, cool base. "COuld it be...?" I ask
myself. After watching the rest of the video, and even seeing it again a
few days later, I can confirm 100%: this video has an Apple Studio
Display on the desk of this businessman (who I believe is also the lead
singer). Cool!

Subject: Tidbit - Pro-Mac Textbook

This tidbit is from:

<mailto: "Tony Silva" tonyslv@gol.com>

Ostensibly platform-neutral, the book is very pro-Mac, including pics of
the iMac, the G3, my Mac mouse, and desktop shots (with Apple's
permission). Part of the dialog from Unit 10, Choosing a Computer:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Clerk: Have you decided whether you want a Mac or Windows-type machine?
Beth: My friends have both types, but I prefer the Macintosh. It seems a
lot more fun to use. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am very happy at being able to get almost all of the pro-Mac stuff
through. I even inlcuded a Monopoly-style board game with the following
square: "Your company switches from Apple to Windows. Lose two turns." A
LOT of college kids here still don't have their first computer, and I
think this book will make a big difference. Talk about guerilla tactics!
Of course, if you can plug the book on the lists, I'd be grateful, too.
Here's the description:
_English for Computers and the Internet_ (Peter Grant and Tony Silva) is
a listening-based conversation textbook for upper beginning level
Japanese learners of English who also wish to understand the basics of
computers and the internet. It equips the student with many of the
necessary English terms encountered on the internet, and also introduces
many of the basics of computer use. With computers and the internet
making themselves a part of everyday life at a dizzying pace, any student
will quickly comprehend the need for the knowledge and skills the text
provides. Through twenty dialogs, the book follows computer novice Beth
as she learns about computers and the internet from her friend Rich. Each
chapter contains comprehension questions, listening tasks, and an extra
activity that underscores the linguistic or technical content presented
in the chapter. Each unit also provides a short humorous story which
highlights some aspect of computer use. Linguistic and technical
difficulty progresses through the twenty units, and a list of technical
terms with definitions that both student and instructor will find useful
follows each chapter.
