A fully functional version of SELDON, a System for Effectively
Legitimizing Decisions Objectively and Naturally can be downloaded
from our web site.

SELDON is a powerful decision analysis and support tool for business
environments. Nevertheless, SELDON can also be applied to virtually
any every day decision-making activity, such as home and auto buying,
college selection, investment strategies, medical options(!) or any
other topic that requires you to evaluate and make decisions.

SELDON is the first product of its kind that can truly integrate into
real world business and consumer-oriented decision making. A few
interesting examples of how SELDON may be used includes:

- - business and marketing scenario development- choose which
technology to fund, or choose which customers to pursue;

- - real estate- narrow a client's selections and increase the
likelihood of closing;

- - proposal support
- - guide a business toward the selection of a winning proposal;
- - data mining- sift through large quantities of customer preference
information to more effectively target marketing resources;
- - employment screening - add insight and structure to the candidate
selection process;
- - consumer-oriented- family decision making, such as college
selection, career planning, investment strategies, etc.

We invite you to visit IsoQuantic Technologies' web site at
<http://www.isoquantic.com,> where you can learn more about SELDON
and download the fully functional version of the SELDON software for

This tidbit is from:

Charles Hoff <mailto:hoffchas@gte.net>

The following is from near the end of a lengthy article by Los
Angeles Times staff writers Mary Curtius and Maria L. La Ganga
describing the recent San Francisco Blackout, and the effects and
repercussions to the stemming from it to the residents and
businesses. The article was front-page on the Wednesday, December
9th, 1998 edition of the Los Angeles Times:

Examiner's afternoon's editions. The paper ought to know. The
finished pages were sent through a generator-powered Macintosh
computer to a printing plant in the East Bay city of Richmond and
then ferried across to San Francisco for on-time delivery.

"It was a combination of 21st century technology with 19th century
kind of chewing gum, glue, and spit," said Executive Editor Phil
Bronstein...

With the holidays upon us, many companies shut down for a period
between Christmas and New Year's. This would be a good time to put
those macs to work on the RC5 challenge (provided your company
doesn't require you to shut all machines down). By setting up those
unused macs to decrypt over the holidays, we can get Team
Evangelista's numbers a little higher.

For the past few days, Slashdot.org has been beating Team
Evangelista. Let's turn up the heat a little and stay on top.

About a year-or-so ago, I found a demo of an interactive cd app that
was in the film noir genre.....a L.A. Detective-type thing. Lost the
cd (it was from a Mac-Mag of some kind, I think)...and can't remember
the name or find the game. Any fellow evangelists know the one I'm
talking about? Any help appreciated! Happy holidays.

This tidbit is from:

Michael Christie Coburn <mailto:coburn@cs.rmit.edu.au>

In Australia we have a directory assistance number run by Telstra
(our former monopolistic telecommiunications carrier) that you can
call nationally to find out phone numbers for a given name/address
combination. Now, as this is on the whole pretty easy, quick and
free, a lot of people use this service (often several times a day)
instead of looking numbers up in the paper directories (read
'doorstops').

Telstra has recently introduced a new service which allows you to
call and have an operator look up a number *and* connect you. This is
not free, but Telstra have been trying to advertise it in the short
delay betewen when the operator looks up the number and the computer
reads out the number to you.

Last night I called to have a number looked up and was pleasantly
suprised to hear the following message during the delay;

"Rather be surfing the net with and Appl iMac? You could win one if
you use Telstra's xxxxx service. Call now for details"

This is no doubt a very cheap form of sponsorship/advertising for
Apple, but I suggest it going to get heard by a *lot* of people.
Smart move Apple Australia.

This tidbit is from:

Paul Shields <mailto:pshields@cyberramp.net>

This week on The Business Mac at Applelinks
<http://www.applelinks.com/business_mac/index.shtml> we have two new
articles.

The first is a review of Business Plan Toolkit from Palo Alto
Software. Business Plan Toolkit provides a series of templates and a
detailed business planning book by Tim Berry that assist the aspiring
entrepreneur with the arduous task of developing a solid business
plan and financial model. Palo Alto software has renewed their
commitment to the Mac with the recent release of an updated version
that offers more detailed business plans, sample plans, updated
advice, and host of other new features. Read the review at:

<http://www.applelinks.com/reviews/busplan.shtml>

The second article is our biweekly feature of a Macintosh Business
Success Story. This week's success story features Inner Space
Caverns, a tourist attraction just outside of Austin, TX. Inner Space
Caverns is completely Mac based, using the Mac for everything from
ticket sales to customer surveys. Check them out at:

This week (Dec 15th) on Just Shoot Me, Maya had an imac prominently
displayed on her desk. At the same time on another network, Carter,
on Spin City, had an imac in his apartment! Hollywood seems to be
making an effort to advertise imacs. Good on them!

I'll keep doing my part: A friend at work bought a Windows PC about a
year and a half ago despite my suggestion to the contrary. After many
problems which he had no idea how to fix, he began moaning about how
he should have listened to me. About a month ago I heard him on the
phone trying to convince someone to buy a Mac!

This request is from:

Philip McIntosh <mailto:ndpmcintosh@mycoinfo.com>

Me and a partner run a web site about fungi called Mycoinfo
<http://www.mycoinfo.com/> and naturally we keep an eye on our site
statistics. In recent months the visitor stats have been pretty
consistent - about 62% Navigator, 34% Explorer and 4% "other"
browsers. As far as OSs, we have seen pretty close to what is
generally reported, that is, only about 5% or less of our hits come
from Macintosh computers. HOWEVER, in the last couple of weeks,there
has been a tremendous surge in Mac hits -- all the way up to 23% of
our total! What gives? Is this just a fluke or are other web sites
seeing a boost in Mac traffic as well? If you are willing to share
such information please drop me a line because I am really curious
about this. Thanks...

Subject: ?? - Disable Netscape Printing

This announcement is from:

Rich Drushal <mailto:hs_drushal.ri@wstr1.tccsa.ohio.gov>

Help! I am the Computer Science Department Chair at a high school
with four computer labs, each with 25 Macs(550's, PM6100's and
PM6500's). The labs are used extensively by our department and other
departments for research on the web. We have three LaserWriters in
each lab. Our success has created a problem. We are going through
toner cartridges way to fast. Students find something on the web and
think that they have to print it all, instead of 'taking notes'. I am
aware of Toner Tuner by SmartStuff Software and a neat shareware
product called NetPrint. What I would like to do is disable printing
from within Netscape and force the use of copy-paste to ClarisWorks
or the use of NetPrint.

Does anyone know of a way to disable printing from within Netscape?

If there is enough interest, I will post the results.

Thanks for the help.
