This job offer is from:

Anson Thurston <mailto:thurston@castles.com>

Help!

Tech Support Assistant needed.

Country Visions, Inc the franchise company for the Country Clutter
Stores is in need of an assistant for the Support department. We have
grown to large and I cannot support 40 stores, by my self:-) We are
looking for someone with a cheery disposition, is comfortable on the
phone, loves Macs and wants to learn as they work. This is an ideal
entry level position for someone who wants to get to know Mac's in a
small business environment. Currently this would be a part time
position with flexible hours, perfect for a college or university
student. Possible changing to full time in the late spring or summer
of 1999.

The job would entail setting up a small network of Macs for testing
prior to shipment to new stores. Help with minor trouble shooting
around the office and a little software/hardware support on the phone
with the stores.

Country Visions is an all Mac business located in Vacaville, CA
midway between San Francisco and Sacramento on I80 15 - 20 mins. from
Davis and UCDavis. We have our own in house Art Department with a
collection of computers from a shiny new 333mhz G3 down to a mighty
LCII working as a print server. All our stores run a Mac Point of
sale system. As well as productivity software in the back office.

Send your resume to: <mailto:support@countryclutter.com> I would
prefer it pasted into an email but a text document or pdf file would
be fine.

or FAX it to: (707) 451-0410 Attn.: Anson

Check out our Web sites at <http://www.countryclutter.com> and

This request is from:

<mailto:Truhill@aol.com>

I'm looking for a program that can be used to book appointments for
specific types of activities. There used to be one called Front Desk,
but I can't find it any more.

Specifically, I'd like the ability to establish defined intervals for
specific activities (haircut 30 minutes; manicure 15 minutes; etc.).

I'd prefer that you be allowed to book more than one activity for the
same time (could be cutting hair while the pedicure feet are
soaking). Would like to be able to identify several resources
(different operators) with different scheules.

Please contact <mailto:Truhill@aol.com> if you have any leads.

Plugged In, the technology section of our local daily newspaper,
Newday, recently did a story about shopping for computers in
cyberspace. The photo on the cover was a man wearing a santa hat,
surfing. His computer of choice? An iMac, in glorious full color.
Yes! Sign me up!

Subject: Tidbit - Macs Read PC Disks Better Than Windows

This tidbit is from:

Tim Humphrey <mailto:humphret@ruby.winthrop.edu>

I work in the computer lab here at school, primarily a PC lab but
with 3 Macs. We have Windows NT on them and not Windows 95, and for
some reason or another NT corrupts students' disks so that they
cannot use them. (I'm guessing because the students use them on their
95 machines at home and then bring them to the lab to print, I don't
know.) Okay, here's the good part. Whenever a student comes to me
with this corrupt disk problem I just pop it into one of the Macs,
copy their files to the hard disk, format the disk in PC format, and
then copy all their stuff back to the disk. After this NT can read
the disk with no problem.

As if that weren't good enough I had the problem today where NT
couldn't format a disk, it could read it but just not format it. My
solution? Format it with the Mac.

To be fair I could probably use Norton Disk Doctor to fix the
problems, but since we don't have that I have to improvise:)

This tidbit is from:

"Noble, C" <mailto:cnoble@acsnet.com>

I teach at a high school where Macs have been the standard platform
for years. With the advent of a new technology coordinator, suddenly
we are looking at switching to PC's. A decision must be made during
the next two months, and since I am a part of the committee who is to
make the decision, I could use some help from this group, people who
are informed, articulate and passionate about the viability of Apple
as a platform and a company. I am not advocating that every computer
in the school be Mac, I believe that students benefit from learning
both platforms. I am VERY interested in the dual platform potential
of the iMacs and the G3s and believe that any future computer
purchases should move in that direction.

What I need help with is independent, non-biased research supporting
not only Mac and Apple, but any experiences people have had with
Apple's dual platform machines. I need to know the good and the bad -
I want to know just what I am up against.

I have an iMac - and I love my iMac! I see is as the answer to our
problem, the perfect compromise. The availability of both platforms
with the ease of use and maintenance of a Mac.

Thanks for you time! It's great to have a group like this to turn to
for suggestions and help!

Subject: Tidbit - Mac Grayliner 2.1.0 Released

This announcement is from:

Chris Smolinski <mailto:csmolinski@erols.com>

Black Cat Systems announces that Mac Grayliner, version 2.1.0, has
been released.

Mac Grayliner displays a map of the entire Earth, showing day, night,
and more importantly, the terminator between day and night. Studies
have shown that enhanced radio propagation occurs between two points
which are both on the day/night terminator.

Now with version 2.1.0, the locations of active NCDXF/IARU beacons
can be displayed in real time, along with the beacon callsign,
country, and location. This should be helpful for identifying DX
openings.

Mac Grayliner requires a Mac with a color display.

Mac Grayliner is shareware. A demo version may be downloaded from the
Black Cat Systems web site at
<http://www.blackcatsystems.com/software/grayliner.html>

Subject: PR - Enigmatic Movements 1.5.1 Released

This announcement is from:

Jochen De Schepper <mailto:jochen.deschepper@student.kuleuven.ac.be>

Lord Jochen from Swordlord Coding Crew today announced the release of
Enigmatic Movements 1.5.1, his enigmatic puzzle game for the Mac.

The object of Enigmatic Movements is to move the colored tiles until
each row or column has the same color. You can choose the boardsize
between 4x4 (piece of cake) and 10x10 (very difficult). Once you get
the hang of it, it's very easy to complete the board, but the real
challenge is to do this in the least number of moves possible ! The
game also keeps statistics of 10 different players, allows you to
choose between different sets of tiles, plays background music from
the Music folder, and lets you choose the background color...

Enigmatic Movements is US$15 shareware. Users can register on-line or
with the Kagi Register application.

Requirements: Enigmatic Movements should run on any Mac or compatible
(68K and PowerPC native) with system 7.0 or better. Minimum RAM
requirement is 1MB, preferred is 1800KB, when you're screen is set to
millions of colors...

Enigmatic Movements 1.5.1 is now available for download at
<http://www.swordlord.com/enigmatic>, and very soon on all major Mac
shareware ftp sites. There's also an updater for version 1.5
available...

Subject: PR - MacHack Endorses Apple Student Developers, Announces Student Discounts

This announcement is from:

Warren Magnus <mailto:wmagnus@ibm.net>

MacHack: The Annual Conference for Leading Edge Developers proudly
announces endorsement of the Apple Student Developer Program, Apple
Computer's new deeply discounted developer support option for full
time students.

Student participation is essential to the MacHack conference. The
annual Hack contest always draws out the best talent and programming.
In fact, at the 1998 conference two of the top five hacks came from
student developer who were first time conference attendees.

Students get the chance to work as peers with some of the best talent
in Macintosh programming today. Also, contacts made at the annual
conference have resulted in internships and full time opportunities
with numerous companies including Apple. Results may vary, of course.

Discounts for student developers have always been available for
MacHack . The 1999 conference is no different. $50 (US) gets students
full conference access and participation, a savings of $475 off the
regular conference admission. Students need only provide proof of
enrollment in a full time academic program. This includes students
from elementary school through graduate school. Student registration
is limited to 50 at the student rate. Full details on this and other
attendance packages are available at the MacHack web site.

Interested developers should check out Apple's Student Developer Program at

Students with the mettle to conquer the unique conference environment
that is MacHack should check the conference URL at
<http://www.machack.com/>.

MacHack is a conference that, in its fourteenth year, remains
centered around cutting edge software development. Each year the
conference brings together well-known names in the software business,
as well as many students and upstarts whose names we'll know soon
enough, and fosters interaction between all of the attendees.
MacHack's uniqueness derives from the informal feel of the conference
and the LIVE coding that occurs around-the-clock during the
conference.

The 1999 MacHack conference will take place June 23-26 in Dearborn,
Michigan. Topics for the 1999 conference include networking, rapid
application and cross platform development. MacHack is a registered
trademark of Expotech, Inc. MacHack is not affiliated with The MacHax
Group, although the Hack Contest seems to keep happening each and
every year! Apple is a registered trademark of Apple Computer, Inc.
