Brazil is one of the 99% PC countries. But things may change with the arrival of iMac. The press, which usually ignores the Mac, is starting to talk about it and Apple comeback. The major journal of Brasilia (capital) published a very positive article about iMac, with a big coloured picture of the "classic" (turquoise) iMac. They compared it with 266 Mhz Pentium II machines and state that iMac is up to twice as fast on several tests. Although the iMac here costs about US 1800, it is already considered the best selling informatics product in Brazil. The article (in portuguese) may be found in:
Besides that, VEJA, a national wide magazine, published a small new showing a photo of Steve Jobs and the new iMacs, talking about Apple comeback. Nice to see this here.

I convinced the principal of my daughter elementary school to buy iMacs instead of Wintel this time. Problem is I can't find ANY encyclopedia for the Mac in Spanish. This would seriously limit the acceptance of Macs in education in Latin America (a huge potential market). I don't feel confortable suggesting VirtualPC + Wintel Software after I have made my point about how much better the Mac plattform is. Any help welcome.

OK, so it's not earth-shaking, or, given the popularity of our wonderful new self-Evangelizing toy, even surprising. On Melrose Place last night, Peter is sitting in his office reviewing the quarterly audits for the hospital on his iMac. There were also a few shots of Michael using the iMac to plot his latest nefarious schem to steal money (temporarily, of course) from Amanda's charity fund. Hey, I might be a consultant and software developer, but even I need an escape from reality once in a while!

At BugNet, a website dedicated to tracking bugs and bugfixes, they decided, for the first time in 4 years, not to give out the BugNet annual award for "best bug fix performance".
Some of the reasons are stated as "... bug fix rates have declined with every new mass market version of Windows...", and "Fact is, PCs - -- and the software products that animate them -- don't work very well. The average American would never buy an electric razor, let alone a chain saw or a mountain bike -- that was as buggy and unreliable as a PC."
