New York NY State Thruway - Ford Crown Victoria, Chevy caprice Classics Fords are the old boxy CVs and the Chevy's are the sleek new CCs. Blue in color usually, almost always have spotlights near front mirror. Also in Use several 88 or newer metallic dark blue Camaros. Rte 219 (south of Buffalo) is one of the most heavily patrolled sector of this area. . .however, in a poll of NYS Thruway officers, troopers said that 90% of the car being pulled over for speeding are exceeding 65MPH. (may have even been 95%). Unfortunately, I think the state police (at least, here in New York) are using cars they seize; you can be pulled over in almost anything. I've seen a car pulled over by a regular black Lumina; the cop was plainclothes, wearing a long black trench coat...but sure 'nuff, behind the grille were two little flashing red lights. That's all you need. But as for the run-of-the-mill stuff...Caprices and Crown Vics, and some leftover Gran Furys. Look for 5-oval-hole wheels and dog-dish hubcaps on the Chryslers (the infamous (to Mopar nuts) "Cop Rims"); look for a-pillar-mounted searchlights on the Caprices and Vics - and, of course, plates marked "official". State Police use dark blue cars with gold lettering. Make and model include Ford Crown Vic and Chevy Caprice. There are a few Camaro RS+ with same markings. Unmarked cars include Vics and Caprices in various colors (Black, Silver, etc.). Look for two extra brake lights in rear window as tip. NYC Police use largely Caprice. Light Blue with White lettering. A few new Crown Vics Used. Still some older Plymouth Gran Fury on the road. Unmarked cars almost exclusively Caprice now. Yellow taxicabs used by street-crime units -- not for traffic enforcement. Nassau County, NY (Long Island): Crown Vics and Caprice. White with orange and blue stripes. NYS Troopers use marked Caprices, Vics, Mustangs and Camaros. NYS Trooper cars are dark blue with yellow trim. The Camaros are a slightly lighter shade of blue, slightly metallic.
