Prospective Member Information

The MEMPHIS CHAPTER of IAAP® has an average membership of 175 members representing a variety of companies and executives in the Memphis area. Members have the opportunity to attend monthly chapter meetings as well as annual meetings of the Tennessee Division and International.

The following are some of the benefits of chapter membership:

ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS WEEK® is observed during the last full week in April each year to bring recognition to professionals for the vital role they play in business, industry, education, and government. It also serves to remind professionals of their responsibilities to their employers and their profession. Wednesday of that week is designated as ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS DAY®. During the week, the Memphis Chapter sponsors a luncheon attended by over 250 executives and their professionals. For more information, you may contact Alissa Dunn or Melissa Shook at 901/756-9966.

The Chapter sponsors the ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONAL SEMINAR in the spring each year, and this one-day seminar is open to all area administrative professionals. Motivational speakers from the local and/or national arena are featured throughout the day. Many exhibitors of business products and services also will be in attendance.

The Certified Professional Secretary® (CPS®) program is an activity with a two-fold purpose: to encourage secretaries and other office personnel to study and attain the CPS rating, and to encourage continuing education for administrative professionals. The CPS exam is given semi-annually during the months of May and November at Southwest Tennessee Community College. For more information, you may contact Kay Cullen CPS/CAP at 901/473-6315.

OFFICE PRO magazine is complimentary with IAAP membership. Non-members may subscribe at a cost of $25 per year.

A TWO-YEAR TUITION SCHOLARSHIP is awarded each year to a deserving high school senior based on submission of an application, information, and interview by the Scholarship Committee. For more information, please call Judy Baird CPS at 901/327-2120.

IAAP maintains information about EMPLOYMENT opportunities in the Memphis area. Employers may list job openings with the Chapter; administrative professionals may list their availability with us and leave resumes on file. For more information, please contact Cheryl Wilkinson at 901/380-7041.

IAAP offers a SPEAKERS BUREAU where members speak to groups of school students, administrative professionals, or executives emphasizing the administrative/secretarial profession. For more information, you may contact Martha Barta at 901/722-3260.

We honor our executives annually on October 16 (National Boss’s Day) with an EXECUTIVE APPRECIATION BREAKFAST. At the event, the Executive of the Year is named.

IAAP members are involved in COMMUNITY AFFAIRS. We fulfill various requests for voluntary help whenever possible. For more information, please contact Linda Middlebrook at 901/528-4408.

A monthly NEWSLETTER is distributed to members, keeping them informed of activities on all levels.
