Creating Logon Accounts

TeleFinder Server comes pre-installed with two logon accounts, TGarbanzo and Guest. This section will show you how to create additional logon accounts, one for a regular user, one for a sysop

Refer to the section "Customize Access Privileges" in the "Customize your BBS" chapter for details on the user settings presented here.

 

Creating a User Account

This step will show you how to create additional user logon accounts, using "John Smith" as an example. John Smith will receive the default level of access.

 

• Select "User Manager" from the Application menu. The Application menu is the menu at the far right of the menu bar.

• Select the "TeleUsers" window by clicking on it to bring the window to the front.

• Select the "New User" command from the Edit menu. The "New Update" window will appear.

   
• Enter "John Smith" in the Name field.

• Enter a password for this account in the Password field. The password must be between 4 and 9 characters.

• Select "Mail Settings" from the icon list. The Mail Settings panel will appear.

   
• Click in the "Create" button under "Mail Location." A mailbox for this user will automatically be created.

• Click in the OK button to save this user's settings.

 

 

Creating a Sysop Account

This step will describe how to create a "Sysop" account. This account will contain the privileges to perform maintenance on the BBS and to have access to all areas on the BBS that regular users would not normally have. Care should be taken to make sure that only authorized users are given the level of access in this step.

 

• Select "User Manager" from the Application menu. The Application menu is the menu at the far right of the menu bar.

 • Select the "TeleUsers" window by clicking on it to bring the window to the front. If the TeleUsers window is not visible, choose "TeleUsers" from the Windows menu.

• Select the "New User" command from the Edit menu. The "New Update" window will appear.

   
• Enter "Sysop" in the Name field. (You may also specify your own name to be used for managing the BBS.)

• Enter a password for this account in the Password field. The password must be between 4 and 9 characters.

• Select "Mail Settings" from the icon list. The Mail Settings panel will appear.

   
• Click in the "Create" button under "Mail Location." A mailbox for this user will automatically be created.

• Select "Privileges" from the icon list. The Privileges panel will appear.

   
•Turn ON the "Allow Web Space," "Can Chat," and "Can Change Password" checkboxes.

• Turn ON the "Can Make Changes," "Can Edit Users," and "All Disk/File Access" checkboxes.

•Turn ON the "Can Upload" and "Can Download" checkboxes.

• Select the "Sysop" access group from the "Access Group" popup menu.

• Click in the OK button to save the settings for this account.
