Messages Files

Download/Import

The Message file is created as a result of downloading messages from your ISP's News Server. The type is 'TEXT' and the creator's signature is change to 'R*ch' (BBEdit) from Lollipop when closing the file. This is done so that Mail Server will not open the file, and get an error, until Lollipop is done with the file.

Lollipop add two items to each messages, otherwise they are just as received from the ISP. A line (containing the new group name) is added to the beginning of each messages which Mail Server uses to determine which conferences to put the message into, this help prevent cross post (same message in multiple conferences, that were posted to multiple news groups). The other item is a one byte binary zero added to the end of the message.

Each message file may contain one or more messages.

Each message file is limited to a little over 250k (at current version).

These files are put in the folder as indicated by the import path name set in the preferences.

Upload/Post/Export

Lollipop looks in the folder as indicated by the export path name set in the preferences.

Messages to be posted, which are created by Mail Server and placed in the Lollipop:Export folder are posted to your ISP's News Server and then deleted.

Lollipop will not deleted a message unless the News Server has confirmed that the message was posted. If you notice messages which are not being deleted consult the Log file, which should indicate the reason for this failure.
