TeleFinder Chat from Tuesday, December 1, 1998 11 AM PST. In attendance: From Spider Island: Rusty Tucker Sysops: Mikael Fredriksson, Bob Nunn, Donald McHose ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rusty Tucker :hey hey Rusty Tucker :got wrapped up in coding for the Windows User Rusty Tucker :Giving it a new transfer status window like the Mac version. Bob Nunn : Find a few things that needed fixing? Rusty Tucker :+ both versions will get some neat tricks in the address book Rusty Tucker :you'll be able to select multiple names to mail to. Bob Nunn : That'll be nice. Rusty Tucker :and you can paste email addresses right in and it will add them to the book Rusty Tucker :actually, you can copy a full email message, paste it and TeleFinder will find the addresses in it and add those. Rusty Tucker :so its a much smarter address book now Mikael Fredriksson : You paste in to the address window? Rusty Tucker :yep Rusty Tucker :or drag and drop ( Mac only ) Rusty Tucker :paste this: Rusty Tucker :To: "support@spiderisland.com" From: "SnagItUpgrade" Date: 01 Dec 98 15:31:28 GMT Subject: News for the SnagIt Family Errors: Rusty Tucker :get this: Rusty Tucker :snagitupgrade@techsmith.com Rusty Tucker :and you can copy addresses as text to the clipboard too Mikael Fredriksson : support of clippings to desktop? Rusty Tucker :not yet as a clipping to desktop Rusty Tucker :that would be good though. Bob Nunn : That ought to ease my maintenance of my joke network. Very practical. It means that it will satisfy many business uses as well. Rusty Tucker :I think so. The clippings can work well as ad hoc mail lists Rusty Tucker :I'll be right back! Bob Nunn : I think that is a good way to look at mail needs. Since you don't want to send dirty jokes to some people etc. It would make it easier to send the right joke to the right people. Rusty Tucker :eventually, I'd like to add categories or keywords and notes too Rusty Tucker :but, this will do for now Rusty Tucker :You might take a look at a product called "eMerge" too -- it's very nice for mailing to a list of people Bob Nunn : The categorization would be a big help. My address book is pretty long. Will I be able to type in the first character of the name now and have it come up? Rusty Tucker :it supports variables within the messages Rusty Tucker :hmm, it should but doesn't :( Bob Nunn : Oh well maybe one day. Bob Nunn : Did you know you can pull your address book into your pub file and use it from HDS mail? Bob Nunn : pub folder. Rusty Tucker :yep, that's pretty cool Bob Nunn : I broke it when I first did that. Jon had to do something to allow for a larger book. Rusty Tucker ::) Rusty Tucker :When I went up to MacNexus, I talked to a guy that has a 300 person address bool Rusty Tucker :! Rusty Tucker :that gets a little tough with the current address book Bob Nunn : Mine is around 110. Rusty Tucker :that's a lot too Rusty Tucker :I've got some cool ideas for TF's view of email online too.. Bob Nunn : It probably should be larger. I keep our individual office mail address in it and our outside sales force. I find myself not adding many I should have but keep part of them in notepad. Rusty Tucker :instead of just seeing the file name/mod date in the view Rusty Tucker :you'll ( someday ) see the from, subject, mail date and first few lines in the message Bob Nunn : Seeing Subject would be nice. Donald McHose joined the chat. Rusty Tucker :Welcome to the chat Donald! Rusty Tucker :subject and first few lines makes it easy to scan the mail box quickly Donald McHose : Ya'll already solve the world's problems ? Rusty Tucker :then you don't need to open all the messages Bob Nunn : I bounce back and forth between TF and HDS depending on what I have loaded. It magnified some of the differences to me. Kill the spam. Mikael Fredriksson : RT will you support the same on POP3? Bob Nunn : I think your web newsmaker is SPML. I sure would like the code. I can't figure out how to get the new to the top of the page. Rusty Tucker :add filtering, saving of outgoing messages, and TeleFinder would be a very, very capable email system all by itself Rusty Tucker :what's that BN? Bob Nunn : Your fatw is it generated like a guestbook? Rusty Tucker :same what MF? When TeleFinder gets those other features it will probably use POP3 format natively Rusty Tucker :no, fatw is hand coded Bob Nunn : Well then you need to get to work. If I can imagine it you should be able to make one. Bob Nunn : ;-) Rusty Tucker ::) yeah, SPML would need some little database features to make that work Bob Nunn : I can make one but it puts the newest at the bottom. Mikael Fredriksson : That some mail readers can read only the first part of your mail and if you want read the rest of it... Rusty Tucker :you can almost get there customizing TOPIC.SPML, and using a topic file Rusty Tucker :at least it will sort the right way Rusty Tucker :the only thing that would be missing would be the day by day breaks Bob Nunn : I will look at it again. I tried that. I got excited when I realized that you had that supported. Bob Nunn : I gotta run send me the log please. Bob Nunn left the chat. Rusty Tucker :c-ya Bob Nunn Rusty Tucker :u bet Donald McHose : Well youz guys have fun. Catcha next time if I get some free (paid for ) time ;-). Donald McHose left the chat. Rusty Tucker :c-ya Donald McHose Mikael Fredriksson : Did you get my mail yesterday about the cheap video card? Rusty Tucker :time for me 2, anything up Mikael? Rusty Tucker :yes, but bon' Rusty Tucker :t need a vid card Mikael Fredriksson : they are back at 199 now... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- December 1, 1998 -- ©Copyright 1998, Spider Island Software
