MEMPHIS, TN Shawn King host
of Your Mac Life will be the guest speaker at Applecore
of Memphis monthly meeting.
The user group meeting is scheduled
for August 20th, at 7:00 p.m. on the Southwest Tennessee
Community College, Macon Cove Campus.
The Host of Your
Mac Life, Shawn King,
has been a Mac user for 15 years and a computer user for
20. He has been the host of the first and preeminent
Macintosh focused Audio Broadcast on the Internet for the
past 8 years.
King is not a journalist - he is a
Mac user just like his audience. He brings a refreshing
style and conversational tone to the thousands of
interviews he has done over the years.
Formed in September 1979, Applecore
of Memphis was created for Apple users to help each other
and come up with new and innovative ideas.
This common theme of pilgrims on
the quest for knowledge, fun, and the ultimate in
whiz-bang gadgetry was echoed by another pioneer, Steve
Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computer as he recalled his
own early involvement in a computer club.
"Without computer clubs there would
probably be no Apple computers. Our club in the Silicon
Valley, the Homebrew Computer Club, was among the first
of its kind
. We had similar interests and we were
there to help other people, but we weren't official and
we weren't formal. Our leader, Lee Felsenstein, who later
designed the Osborne computer, would get up at every
meeting and announce the convening of 'the Homebrew
Computer Club, which does not exist' and everyone would
applaud happily."
This computer club is official now
and has several divisions spread over the United States,
each with its own unique and special way of dealing with
everyday computer problems.
