Not with either of those solutions. Using the option key simply told the driver to send to the faxing software -- device management, like with Chooser, had nothing to do with it, since the fax device would already have been associated.
Kadin may be right about both comments above; I had exactly both of those solutions (first Geoport and later FaxSTF) at earlier times, and it was very nice that I could fax from anything. I remember faxing out of GraphicConverter many years ago, and I probably invoked it with option-print.
