I frequently print posters from Pages, posters that may take in the range of 4 to 12 8-1/2 by 11 sheets of paper. It is important that the end result be such that the fact that it is on multiple sheets be as unnoticeable as possible.
Bear in mind that most 8-1/2 by 11 printers when printing an edge-to-edge image will actually extend the image a bit beyond the edges of the sheet, something that will go unnoticed if what you are printing will only occupy a single sheet, but something that makes it nearly impossible to create a multi-sheet poster. And bear in mind there printers that will not print to the edge of the sheet.
Here is what I do....
a) I create a template for a printed page, setting margin guides at 1/4 inch from each edge.
b) I create the full poster in Pages and then put guides that identify how much of the poster will go onto each printed page.
c) I then copy a page worth from the full poster onto the aforementioned template and print it.
d) I repeat the above step as many times as needed until all the sections are printed.
e) I then trim 1/4 inch off of each of the four edges of each printed sheet.
f) I then fasten the sheets together and have the full poster.
Yes it does take a bit of care and patience, but the only alternative that I know of is to pay big bucks at a place like Kinkos.
