A Beige G3 supports up to 1600x1200. 6MB should be enough to do 24-bit color, but not 32-bit, so Apple may limit it to 16-bit.
I seem to vaguely remember, long ago, I tried running 1600x1200 on one of my G3's with a 17" monitor. I seem to remember that it would only do 60Hz and that was way too hard on the eyes.
