I installed 8.6 on the server this Sunday. I have been using it on my other systems since the day it came out with very little problems. I did have to go to my Fixed CD driver for my non-Apple CD's but like using the apple software better than one of the aftermarket companies.
My Sherlock quite working on one installation and it took me a minute to figure out that 8.6 had replaced it. I have around 125 plug ins installed and when you do that you have to turn up the memory on Sherlock. Once I figured that out everything was cool.
I don't use the game sprockets 8.6 installs so I turned them off in extension manager as well as the USB extension additions.
I guess things are better. I can't see any real differences. 8.6 supposedly helps multitasking and is more stable. The longer I run it the more I will know about it though.
If you were waiting for the thud I think you can safely go ahead. I haven't read much in terms of problems. Just make sure you update your hard disk drivers and run repair before installing it. I know the installer does that for you but I do it anyway just to be safe. Probably a good idea to rebuild the desktop before and after the install as well.
