Vince,
<<<Netscape seems to be much better now that version 3.06b came out. Netscape 3.0b6 is suppose to have better memory management and increased stability. From what I've see, it's a vast improvement. Netscape hasn't crashed at all since I've upgraded to the new beta version. I think that version 3.0b6 may even be more stable than 2.0.>>>

Well, I've been running with RamDoubler lately, since NS has a big problem with the memory leak (check your Available RAM before loading NS and after quitting it. You'll notice a big chunk, usually about 10 megs or so, is missing, which stinks. I wish I had about $270 so I could get another 32 megs of RAM. However, I think NS and RD don't cooperate well together. I can't wait until we get the stable VM scheme in MacOS 8. That will be MUCH needed. Supposedly we'll be getting a significant improvement in the next couple of weeks when system 7.5.4 comes out. Maybe they'll go ahead and implement the totally new VM in System 7.6, since it's supposed to be very close to completion and quite stable.

The nice thing about Copland is the way the microkernal works for base system components like the file system. It's very flexible, such that you can use any kind of disk subsystem with various file systems (HFS, super HFS, Unix-style, and next-generation file systems by 3rd parties and Apple (system 8.5)). Not only this, but supposedly the new "extension" scheme will slip things like RAM doubler in between the microkernal and file system - behind the "firewall" so to speak, such that it's all very fast and very transparent to the applications. Incidentally, this is one of the things that may allow Insignia to produce a MUCH faster SoftWindows-type product that may even allow you to launch W95 software just by double clicking the icon, and give better speeds than ever. My educated guess is that Apple, MS, and Insignia are all working on this, which may explain all the conferences Amelio and Gates have been having lately AND the rumours people have been pushing about W95 apps running in OS8.
