Vince,
<<Really? OT/PPP seemed much slower than FreePPP. In fact, I remember someone did some speed comparisons between PPP programs, and FreePPP was faster than OT/PPP. In any case, I saw a noticable difference in speed with OT/PPP.

Anyway, I've got the newest software and I don't have any problems with it. I don't see a difference in close speeds with FreePPP v2.6b4 though. It seems just as fast as before (takes 1-2 seconds to kill the connection).>>

Actually, there were results posted on the net which showed just the opposite of what you report: OT/PPP connections are slightly faster (can't remember the margin, it wasn't much, but it was apparently noticable). Now, it seems that on certain 603 and 603e-based Macs the OT/PPP extension in its earlier releases were said to slow the CPU down if used with Global Village modems or something like that. Maybe you got those two things confused?

As far as FreePPP 2.6a4, it's noticably faster in closing connections on my machine. It used to take 15-20 seconds, now it takes only 2-5 seconds.

Later,
