ColorSync 2.5 is an update to Apple Computer's color management architecture for the Mac OS. A new version of the InputSprocket within Apple Game Sprockets was posted to the Apple web site last week. This release provides a compact API (application programming interface) through which games can communicate with input device drivers. The venerable programmer and author Danny Goodman has just released a new 1,000-page tome, Dynamic HTML: The Definitive Reference, Comprehensive Resource for HTML, CSS, DOM, and JavaScript. This compendium for web content developers contains everything needed to create functional cross-platform DHTML web applications. The chapter "Cross-Platform Compromises" is available free from the publisher's web site.
iView Multimedia 3.2 is the only program to offer users of PageMaker, Painter, and Live Picture the ability to import, display, and catalog all their files. It also supports Canvas, Freehand, QuarkXpress, Illustrator, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PICT, GX, BMP, Targa, and EPS formats. Rand Miller, cocreator of Myst and Riven, says, "iView Multimedia is my solution." Apple has announced that it is extending build-to-order (BTO) capabilities to the company's national, regional, and local resellers, offering customers yet another way to purchase Apple products. Apple resellers in the United States who enroll in Apple's Reseller BTO program can now offer customized versions of Apple Power Macintosh G3 computers and servers to their customers.

Insider Software offers a unique service that helps Macintosh developers deliver software upgrades to users. Users run Insider UpdateAgent as part of their regular system maintenance, and this utility automatically checks all their applications, then downloads any applicable updates, patches, or drivers. UpdateAgent also delivers information about fee-based upgrades. To initiate the update service, Macintosh developers normally pay a US$ 250 setup fee per application version, but until September 30, 1998, the setup fee is waived.
