FileMaker Pro 5 Wins PC Computing 1999 MVP Award, Named Best Database Software
New product bests Microsoft Access 2000 and Oracle 8i Lite
LAS VEGAS -- Nov. 15, 1999 -- FileMaker Pro 5 has won a prestigious PC Computing 1999 Most Valuable Product (MVP) Award, as the best database software of the year. The new FileMaker Pro 5, a leading solution for workgroups and individuals managing information on the desktop and the Web, topped the entire database field, besting finalists Microsoft Access 2000 and Oracle 8i Lite.
The MVP Award is bestowed by PC Computing, the National Magazine Award-winning Ziff-Davis (NYSE: ZD) business technology magazine.
FileMaker Pro 5 and other MVP Award winners were honored at PC Computing's 11th annual MVP Awards ceremony, held Nov. 14 at a gala event at the Harley-Davidson Café in Las Vegas. The MVP Awards ceremony has long been considered the unofficial kickoff for the COMDEX/Fall trade show, the technology industry's largest annual gathering, which officially opens today.
PC Computing's editors cited several reasons for selecting FileMaker Pro 5 as 1999's database of the year. The new product strengthens the FileMaker lead in database web publishing, adding support for Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), so browser users may now view or edit databases with almost exactly the same design elements in the original layouts. And to fit with corporate desktop standards, FileMaker Pro 5, now Microsoft Windows 2000 ready, features a completely new, yet familiar interface that compliments the look and feel of Microsoft Office.
Products in all categories that shipped between October 1, 1998 and September 30, 1999 were eligible for consideration by PC Computing's editors for the 1999 MVP Awards.
