<<This means that TeleFinder is trying to communicate with the server, but either its message or the reply is not gettting through. This will resolve itself by getting a relaiable connection.>>

I don't understand what constitutes a reliable connection then--as far as I can see you define an unreliable connection as anything that gives a problem that you don't know the answer to.

this happens literally on at least 20 different modem/machine combinations of which I have witnessed in person 3. These range from 1200 to 28,800 bps. It occurs on windows 3.1 and windows 95. The exact same machines which worked fine with the earlier version freeze up in this way with this one. The modems at the receiving end (my server) work fine with Macintosh software and worked fine with previous windows user.

Finally--if the connection is so awful, how is it that people are able to IM while all this is going on? Your reply is not only unhelpful, it is as though you didn't bother to even read the info I gave you.

It is hard for me to believe that my customers' modems all stopped working correctly simultaneously at the time they upgraded to version 2.5. There must be something in 2.5 that has changed.

It may be that 2.5 puts a more stringent demand on modems, though I don't know what this might be--if so what is it and how do I resolve it?

To tell me that I need to have a "reliable connection" is no answer at all--the fact that the connection is reliable with some versions of the software and suddenly becomes unreliable with single release, in the same way on every PC on which it runs and under 2 different operating systems and on a slew of different modems--and while being "unreliable" still allows instant messages to be transmitted--well this strains the bounds of what you might mean by a "relaible connection"

If you have some dark secret knowledge that you consider stuopid people like myself cannot comprehend, then why not reveal it here and take a chance?

But what it really sounds like to me is that you haven't really tested the 2.5 release and haven't actually used it enough to understand whether it is reliable or not, and are not particulalrly interested in addressing this problem. Well that doesn't make the problem go away.

According to the info you give out, these boards are for technical support. Telling me I need a relaible connection is hardly technical support.

I would appreciate a sensible answer which gives me some idea about how I might improve what is a very bad situation.
