I also work in a school setting. I try to make sure that all my students are aware of how important passwords are and that this feature is not turned on. In fact I show them how to turn it on and off. You can of course restrict their account if they share their password.
I find the storing of the password quite useful, since I'm in an environment where most users have their own machine to access the server. If you improve it, can it be at a level where it applies to the BBS as a whole, so I can continue to have the user decide to save passwords?
