Daniel:

I have EXACTLY the same CPU/Memeory you have setup and have successfully edited preferences with all versions of the client from both 8.0 and 8.1 system versions. I would try tossing the Preferences files out in the system folder and rebuild them. Place them in the trash but don't empty it. Reboot the CPU and open you client. Try editing the preferences and see what happens.

I find it interesting that this is the second time I've recommended doing this procedure in the recent past.
