Rusty

As I noted, ****I**** was not able to reproduce this behavior on the spiderisland.com BBS--Then again, the #FILES IS problem was **also** not reproducible. I said this in post #70:

<<Once again, just as in the case of the #FIELDS problem, the telefinder.com server does not display the same problem as mine does>>

Are you running the same telefinder server software that I am running? the actual version 5.7.1 that I downloaded? or the final version 5.7 that it just supplanted? Maybe you are but I don't think so. The reason I don't think so is as I have just said--the bug that you just corrected (the #FILES IS) was not on your system the other night (it wasn't--when I test registered). So how could you have been running the same software which I was running if your server was not exhibiting this bug which you corrected by 5.7.1? Likewise this windows bug (if it is a bug) is on both my servers but **not** on yours

If you want to witness this, why not upload a text file to one of my sites (campus.dyc.edu)? I just created an account for you--Rusty--password Rusty--so you don't have to even register--just sign on and upload (from a windows machine) a text file created in windows. Use the signat.txt file--that should work--just drag it into your mailbox--what will happen is that you will not be able to open the file online.

Before you even try uploading, I have placed three text files from a windows machine in your mailbox on campus.dyc.edu, and the same three files in **my** mailbox on bbs.spiderisland.com. The files on campus.dyc.edu can't be opened from tfuser, and the files on spiderisland.com can. (By the way this behavior occurs on both of my servers which run 5.7/5.7.1.). You will find that the three in my mailbox on your server open normally but that the three in your mailbox on my server do not. It seems pretty clear to me that the server software does not recognize DOS formatted text files as text files, at least insofar as the BBS is concerned. It does not appear to have this problem on the WEB side.

In closing, I want to say again--I have already uploaded a text file to your site--it works fine there--there is no need to reproduce that test--there is nothing to be learned because it won't reproduce the bug--there is clearly a difference between thge software running on your site and that running on mine--if it is a setting that I haven't set or if it is some problem in the software, I don't know--but you can easily verify for yourself that it is there.
