Steve:

I have been using 8.5. and 8.5.1 for a while now. I have a hunch that your problems may be due to a conflict in the configuration of your nodes, or a conflict between the telecom and networking software that 8.5.1 installed and TeleFinder Server. Here are some suggestions to check out, based on what I have been able to do here at the KZ:

First, all modem nodes should be checked to verify they are indeed using differrent serial ports than their companions.

Next, All TCP nodes should be checked to verify they are configured properly to use Open Transport, and that TCP is running BEFORE TCP-based nodes, and Mail server sessions, Web etc are running.

And, If you use Mackennel:
Try moving the Open Transport Serial Port Arbitrtator and any other "Arbitrator" extension you have in the "Extensions" folder into the "Extensions (Disabled)" folder. When I re-formatted my drives in installed the 8.5 and 8.5.1 packages I needed to do this and to also re-setup my MacKennel Fidonet software modem port setting and "Smart Doggie mode" so that it would not attempt to acquire the same serial port at the same time as the BBS.

Also, if you have MacKennel, make sure that your "Gateway node" is using the modem port or else it will never work properly during crashmail.
