I think both dir_list and include work anyhere within the directory tree. For user web spaces #dir_list="/folder/" will list the contents of "folder" at the users root level, while #dir_list="folder/" will list the contents of "folder" at the same level of the listing page.

The parameter should be surrounded in quotes, this lets the parser know where the parameter begins and ends. Simple whitespace could have been chosen as a delimeter, but mac file names may contain whitespace, so that's a problem.

In the variable list, your constant strings must be quoted. The environment variables should be, but don't need to be quoted.

From your description, I supect there is an extra " floating around.

Do you have an example of the SPML that is producing the problem?

In all SPML is programming. You will encounter problems writing it just like any other code.
