The icons displayed from within TF/User are controlled by resources in the client which are superceded by those present in the "settings" file, if one is used. I do not think that the dsiplay is controlled by the finder desktop, except for posisitioning information which can also be over-ridden by the settings file. If the desktop icons have changed, it indicates a few possibilities:
1. The sysop has possibly modified the paths to items on their server in such a manner that they do not correspond to those in the connecting user's client settings file
2. The incorrect settings file was loaded by the connecting user's client.
I have been using the same custom settings file for a long time and do not notice any change in the appearance of the Spider Island Desktop. I therefore suspect that the settings file you are using now may not be the one you were using before. This could happen if you updated your TF/user client and your previous settings file was not loaded. I do not know what would happen if the settings file were damaged, but still loadable. Each time I encountered a damaged settings file, the settings file I had open before it would open.
