We had a series of meetings to determine what to do with employees who throw trash in our parking lot. We had put signs up at a fair amount of cost. Everyone was waring by signs on the bulletin board, at meetings etc. This subject was brought up at meetings for several weeks. Mostly they decided to fire anyone caught throwing trash in the parking lot. Someone pointed out that it was like baby pigeons and was rarely observed happening. I finally got angry and pointed out that there was only one trash bin in the parking lot and it was always running over and that everyone should be ashamed for taking all this time up. We got trash bins on every other parking lane and the parking lot stays cleaner now. We still have a few people throw trash out but it is a fairly rare occurance.

The only reason I bring this up is that sometimes we miss the problem. I discovered that many of my Windows and ANSI/ASCI people didn't know how to throw out their old mail and yes even a few Mac people. I also discovered that some had subscribed to mailing lists they really didn't want and didn't know how to cancel them. I of course give them the instructions they need and have had to threaten a few "list" people to get their names removed (most comply though).

I only have around 460 users but only about 12 or 15 have any mailboxes of any size. I deal with them individually. Some term users, I discard their mail for them after letting them know I was going to. Other than that I put a message up to clean out your mailbox about every 60 days and that takes care of most of it.

I had tried the OAT feature for mailbox cleaning and it works good but it also cleaned out my mailbox of things I wanted kept. Susie works roughly the same way. I may have to go to an automated cleaner in the future but for now I have been able to handle it spending a few hours each month.
