We are in week 5 of our installation of the microsoft proxy server. Our computer people and their consultants are going from dorm room to dorm room setting up windows computers to properly address the proxy server.

As of today, Telefinder user for the mac cannot get throught the proxy server and our consultants suggest that there may be no way to accomplish this. Telefinder user for the PC does work provided that the Proxy Client is installed which as far as I can tell allows WinSock compatible software to talk to the proxy server--is this right--presumably this means that

For other platforms SOCKS compatibility is what is needed (SOCKS is a UNIX standard?) if I am reading the microsoft stuff correctly. Is this true? Is there any way around this? Rusty--we talked about this on the phone--I nearly quit my job today over this--not my teaching job but this bogus extra job I have which even has a FANCY TITLE (Director of Internet Services--please restrain the laughter). I am ready at this point to kill just about everyone who wears a suit and utters the word "solution". OK--so here it is--is there any way that such compatibility can be incorporated into tf mac client.

If I know that this is coming I can wait I guess (though I dont like to) and tell my mac people to use wintel computers for a bit (Ouch ouch ouch). On the other hand, if it ain't gonna be here this century, then I can continue to blast away--I mean I was really pounding desks today--but that stuff only takes you so far. How tough is this? Am I the only one in this position? Are proxy servers the wave of the future? This is a tough fight to fight

The FTP and the SOCKS capabilities are something that I would definitely pay for--these really would solve an enormous problem that I am facing right now.
