Thanks Ken--Unfortunately this doesn't work--port 23 is as impervious as port 21 and even port 110 doesn't work unless your application specvifically addresses the proxy server. ANY app written to be compliant with WINSOCK works, and so telefinder for Windows works fine--on port 1474, port 23 port 23,771--any port--they are all open.
Telefinder for MAC does not work, nor does fetch, nor does NCSA Telnet, nor (I suspect) do any of the common e-mailers--the only apps that work are those which specifically support SOCKS or browsers which are proxy "enabled". In netscape, every service is routed to the proxy server at port 80 which then opens the appropriate port to the externla world for it.
But none of those tricks you mention work (in the good old days when we hgad a firewa;; they worked just fine). And our "consultants" dont seem to be able to find a solution--either that or they just dont want to--it is extremely restrictive.
