I agree that FTP would be nice--but I asked for something much more modest--that people be able to drag an entire folder from the finder (or its win95 equivalent) to a folder on the BBS. Here is the reply I got

They use FTP.. which is what we really need instead of changes to the TF file transferring.

This is to RT:
But see--**I** asked for changes to to TF file transferring--**we**--I don't know this person **we**--check that--I think **we** has been asking for FTP for 2 years now and have gotten other responses in other times and places telling them why **they** (still another person, didnt really want that at that time.
The strength and uniqueness of TF is its BBS--that is what distinguishes it from other web servers. Its BBS is a place where people can chat, upload files and start conference topics and have them generated ob the fly as a web page--PEOPLE LIKE THIS\T--I KNOW THIS BECAUSE THEY TELL ME--it is the distinctive thing about TF that has gotten kudos from my faculty members--YOUR CUSTOMERS!!!!!!!!!--for the TF system. Why can't you listen to what people want rather than telling them what they ***ought** to want.
When I drag a folder to a BBS icon, I get a download icon and when I let go I get a beep and the folder springs back to the computer desktop. Clearly TF software detects that I am trying to upload a folder and responds accordingly. When I go to the menu and select NEW->FOLDER..., TF allows me to name and create a new folder. Clearly there already exists in the TF software, routines which recognize and respond to the attempt on the part of the user to upload a folder, and other routines which create a folder on the BBS/WEB server computer.
I can't see where connecting these two would constitute a burdensome change in either the philosophy or implementation of the TF interface. There would be bookeeping details to be sure--there would need to be a scan for identical folders and/or files and some sort of warning (just as there now is for individual files).
But what is the alternative? Fetch? direct access to the BBS/WEB servers file system? Or some cumbersome added set of permissions? Might be worth it--but for now, the simplicity and elegance of locating the users web page in their mail box would be enhanced by letting them upload folders to that box.
