Just a note to pass along some info from Apple Tech Support (stuff that you may already know). Open Transport 1.1.2 is available and it has improved a variety of speed related problems for my customers on their AppleTalk/EtherTalk networks BUT it is NOT compatible with NNTP Sucker 1.5.0/.1. Soooooo, if you pull in internet newsgroups, remember, stay with Open Transport 1.1.1.
Always, Apple (and Spider Island) recommends turning off (uncheck) the Load Only When Needed option in the TCP/IP control panel (click on the options button when you are in user mode Advanced or Administration). This way the OT TCP stack will remain in memory when loaded.
Finally, the Apple server group has a little utility that is unsupported but works great for boosting slow OT connections from the Web Server. It is called OTTCPSlowLink Tuneup2. You run the program - it patches OT when it is in RAM - and then the program quickly shuts down but the patch remains. Then your Web Service TCP speed will improve. If you need the software, send email to me.
