I am curious about the behavior that Matt Snyder is reporting regarding NNTP sucker. Specifically I am interested in the "It works fine the first time but fails the second time" part.
I was probably fooled into believing I had a fix for this one because I got it working the first time, after changing PPP clients. *IT DOES FAIL* on my system also if stopped and restarted. I have it on a 24 Hour schedule so it never really stops. The only thing that appears to make it work for me is to reload the PPP software. Could it be corrupting something there, because the launch problem exists ACROSS REBOOTS.
I have looked at things active with the New Extension Manager, and am trying to come up with a list of conflicting extensions. I believe that for Open Transport, that the Serial Port Arbitrator and the Open Transport Serial Port Arbitrator are the only ones.
I have tried a new PPP client, called NTS PPP. I suspect that this client will work well for users having dynamically assigned IP addresses that are transmitted to the client. It is installable as a version for PowerPC or for 68K. I cannot use this client because it only appears to work with IP addresses assigned by the server. My address is not dynamically assigned - in fact it is not assigned by the server at all. In my case, I tell the server what my address is (yes I know that is weird, but I have reasons for being set up that way). This mode is not currently supported by the NTS client. I will continue to test PPP clients as I find them and let you know how they work for me.
