The problem modem for my BBS from PC/IBM users is the USR sportster 288--none of them are able to connect at 288, but they can connect at 19,200 if the configuration is changed to 19200. They seem to be subject to random disconnection usually after about 6-7 minutes online. I noticed that one of them seemed toemanate fax-like sounds when a user was signing on. (these have been the internal modems)

I noticed some mention of these dogs early in this folder--does anyone have some definitive knowledge of them and does any sysop with many PC users have this problem?

I noticed in my latest mac-connection catalog that there is a version of the USR sportster 288 allegedly v.34 called the si selling for $60--versus the "vi" which sells for $220/ This sounds very fishy making me think that there is some defect in the cheaper version.

does anyone know anything about this, and can antone assist me in assiting my users?
