We are seeing major connection problems with the Hayes Accura 336, Model 5914US v7.30, when attempting to connect to the Hayes OPTIMA 288, Model 5201AM v5.42. The Accura simply doesn't seem able to negotiate a connection and TeleFinder will report something like:
2/07/97 1:51:39 PM - Connection made at 26400 bps.
We see the same problem with earlier Hayes Accura 144 modems and some Supra 144 modems when attempting to connect to the Hayes OPTIMA 288 Business Modem that has been flashed with v6.20 code to become a 33.6k modem. The OPTIMA 336 uses this same code. Further, the v6.20 code appears incapable of supporting a European call, by making any sort of connection.
We have advised Hayes Product Engineering and they have made test calls into the ASTEC BBS and see the problem, but have not yet indicated what can or will be done.
For the time being, we suggest that Hayes TF Syops stick with the earlier OPTIMA 288 v5.42, to prevent the 14.4k problems and to support European calls. Time permitting, we may flash the OPTIMA 288 Business modems back down to v6.10 and see what happens. That deletes 33.6k capability, but outside of our own local loop tests, 33.6k connections are extremely rare and a 31.2k connection offers little over a 28.8k connection.
