Talking about crashing....I seem to have a problem as well, I can't keep this server running for more than a few hours at a time...I have tried just about everything to try and find out what hangs the system...12-14 hours is the max it will run without a system restart...It hangs!!!!

Can someone outline how long they can keep things running without a hang or crash?? Also, what amount of memory you have given each application of TF..

You should strip out everything that isn't necessary. Quite surfing the net on it. :)

I do one thing that I can't swear is necessary but might be. I run MacOS Purge every two hours to free any stuck RAM. That might be important in tight memory conditions especially if you use it as a workstation even more especially if you run any Microsoft products on it. (they are nasty about releasing memory back to the system heap)

I do reboot everynight really don't think I need to...I have 2 other Macs that I don't reboot can't remember the last time they went down...but they don't write as many files to and from the disk...they serve.

Im running a Power Computing 180 603e with 144 megs RAM although I don't use nearly all the RAM available and could scrunch things down condsiderable if I want to experiment.

MacOS 8
Telefinder Server 50 megs RAM it needs all of it. caching 800 files 50 threads running 20 nodes 20,000 to 40,000 webpages perday and 100,000 + email transactions. Quite a bit of SSI going on.

Mail Server 10 megs RAM Doesn't need near that much.

UserManager 5 megs RAM Doesn't need near that much.

Rumpus Pro 15 megs RAM May need that much. (a little unstable adding members from the GUI...add them in the userdatabase in the prefs folder with BBedit- other wise very stable in operation)

MacOS Purge every 2 hours using Powerkey macro
Reboot every night using PowerKey macro
PowerKey brings TF server to the front every 20 minutes
I run Norton, then disk firstaid and then delete the desktopdb once a month
rarely find anything.
