Jim:

My direct conversations with Sun on the issue of Java support for the Macintosh were ealier this year. They told me to contact Gary Little, who was/is in charge of Apple's Java development. I knew Gary from his Apple //GS days and Hyperstudio, so I sent him a question regarding this. He told me in his response that Apple was going to use M$'s JVM and JIT.. Exactly what I did NOT want to hear. I also read that Metrowerks was stopping development of their Mac JVM due to Apple's selection of the M$ JVM. At one point there were going to be as many as 5 JVM's for mac, but now that is no longer the case.

I wonder if and how this has changed due to recent DOO (Difference of Opinion) exhibited by Apple's Tevaninan and Microsoft regarding M$ heavy-handed tactics to get M$IExploder installed as the "Broswer of Choice" (a misnomer if ever their was one) in MacOS releases for the next 5 years - a peice of testimony in the US vs M$ Anti-trust trial.

Why do you need a POP3 mail client when Netscape has one built into Communicator Pro? (let me guess - Communicator Pro's huge memory requirements)

As far as I know, the HDS Email plug-in only works with Mail Server and cannot access other POP 3 servers. What is the requirement for this capability? Users should implement direct addressing (ie one address/per user) and mail forwarding mechanisms (forward.txt in the TF scheme, and .forward files in unix scheme) to obtain their mail from as few sources as possible. If multiple sources are required, rather than just desired, then each of these sources should have a POP3 compliant server and the users briefed on how to re-configure their POP3 clients of choice for direct access.
