I will be running TeleFinder on a server when I get it set up in the next few days. My question is about setting up the network itself and is not specifically TeleFinder related.
I have one DSL connection which I want to share between one server and three other computers in my home. I have a dynamic IP and am considering using tzo.com for my DNS service. My question pertains to the physical setup of the network. My plan is to connect the DSL to a router/firewall, then use the uplink to connect to a switch with up to six ports. The six ports would include my server and two desktop computers. In addition, I plan to run cable to three locations in my home for using a laptop.
Is this the right way to set up the network? Does anyone have any experience using tzo.com, and if so, does it really work okay behind a firewall as they say it will?
If anyone has any better suggestions, let me know. The cabling hasn't been done yet, but most of the hardware has been purchased.
