Open System Preferences -> International Check "Show input menu in menu bar"
Now you should have a country flag on the right side of the menu bar.
Click on the flag, and select "Show Keyboard Viewer"
Now as you hold down different modifier keys, the keyboard display will change to show the characters enabled you would get for each key on the keyboard.
