that means it can't find a bootable system on either the hard drive or
the optical drive (or any attached hard drives but you didn't mention
additional drives).

that sounds like the computer works, but whatever system disc you have
in there is not compatible with it. for instance, it's possible that
the disc you have was bundled with a different model mac. or, the
optical drive is defective.

what exactly does it say on the disc?

also, why did you switch? especially since you say you don't have any
discs that came with it.
