I have three My Book external drives, an Essential 750 (USB 2 only) and two
Home 320s (USB 2 and FireWire 400, the older version, without the eSATA). All
work quite well with a range of Macs and Windows machines. I was looking at
the 1TB My Books. The main diff between the Home versions and the Studio
versions is the colour (black/silver) the FireWire options (two 400/one 400
and one 800) and the price ($300/$320).

I was also looking at Seagate drives, and noted that the Seagate Free Agent
Pro 1 TB costs what the My Book 1 TB Studio costs, but only has FireWire 400
like the Home and ships formatted NTFS instead of FAT32. Seagate's Maxtor One
Touch 4 Plus is the Maxtor version of that drive, and costs what the Home
does and is similarly equipped. The 'Seagate' version has a 5 year warranty,
the 'Maxtor' version has a 1 year warranty.

The My Book Studio seems to be the best deal for a FW 800 drive. My old WDs
work fine. Only the Essential is still in warranty, and I've had no problems
with any of them. What negative feedback have you been getting, and for which
version? There have been at least three. (Two with the circular LEDs on the
front, one with the single line LED on the front.)
