See my prior post; that's what I have always done.

The last time I panicked that I'd lost Classic forever, I phoned Apple.
That guy basically said I could only retain Classic if I continuously
upgraded over my original Jaguar install over the years.

He didn't mention the approach for copying over the System folder for
Classic. Fortunately, I remember that trick.
