HI. I own a 24" Imac running OS 10.5.4.

I access the internet via DSL from Verizon,

I don't use a router, nor have I activated a Firewall.

My question is: Should I activate a Firewall? Without one, is my Mac at
risk of being infiltrated by others on the internet? If I should turn on
a Firewall can I do it with via one of the System Preferences?
