Wiping the entire website and starting fresh, it seems to me, is a great way to avoid solving the problem altogether. Making a website work correctly is the solution, not starting all over agan. I don't doubt that removing it entirely may solve any number of difficulties known and unknown. But once the website is rebuilt, if it doesn't work appropriately, the next "cure" might either be wiping the hard-drive say, or moving to Windows.
