That won't "restore" the emails that were stored in the Inbox that got wiped. If you had your account setup to copy and delete the email from the remote server, it's gone unless you have backups.
In the off chance you had Apple Mail setup to delete the files weekly or daily, then they may still be there. But, I've heard that Apple Mail will do something stupid like delete all the emails if you delete the mailbox. It's a common gotcha that lots of people have been bitten by over the years.
So, yes, you can do the rule thing but it won't get the stuff in Inbox back.
